The summer of 1932 had seen record temperatures recorded in the
United Kingdom, now 1933 been ushered in, the nights had drawn out
and the prospect of another hot summer was on the cards.
The Manager of the Municipal and City Bank in Exeter, Mr Douglas
Treadwell, was heading home a little later than usual after a busy day at
the office, when he was set upon in the streets near the Cathedral. His
briefcase was taken, and he was left by the side of road with fatal
injuries.
Was his death simply an opportunist street theft that had gone wrong?
Was there something in the briefcase that the thief was after? Was he
silenced because of something he knew or had discovered? Were there
family secrets that had caught up with him?
The Investigator in charge of the case had begun their work and has
asked four people to come and help him with his enquiries. They are: Mr
Treadwell’s wife; a disgruntled customer; the Chief Clerk at the branch;
and Mr Treadwell’s Secretary.
The Investigator arranges for these four people to attend today, and he
is calling on the other guests present to help with his investigation. All
the clues will be there to identify the culprit, but will they be correctly
deduced?
